The new regulation by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, limiting non-Muslim houses of worship from requesting government funding more than once every three years, has sparked criticism. MIC Deputy President M. Saravanan called the decision “illogical and unreasonable,” arguing it would alienate the Indian community, which is already disillusioned with the government. He emphasized that Hindu temples, in particular, face financial struggles, and such regulations would hinder necessary repairs and maintenance. Saravanan urged the government to act fairly, suggesting that monitoring and assessment teams could be deployed to prevent misuse of funds, rather than imposing blanket restrictions.
