Govt ignores calls not to appeal against children citizenship ruling

1 min read

The government is appealing against a lower court’s declaration that overseas-born children of Malaysian mothers and foreign fathers are entitled to automatic citizenship.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) filed the notice of appeal yesterday despite calls by rights activists for the gov’t to abstain from the appeal.

The AGC, which acted for the government – the defendant – in the legal action, has filed for the Court of Appeal to reverse the High Court ruling, says Malaysiakini.
