KOTA KINABALU, Sept 6 — Sabah Umno treasurer Salleh Said Keruak said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) offer of just eight seats for Umno in the upcoming 17th state election was “deeply hurtful” and derailed alliance talks. He argued the proposal ignored the incumbency principle, as Umno currently holds 14 seats. Salleh added that seat negotiations must be fair, respecting incumbency and allowing swaps only through mutual agreement. He stressed that BN would not accept unfair deals, echoing president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s stance. Salleh contrasted GRS’s approach with smoother negotiations BN previously had with Pakatan Harapan under the unity government.
