KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 — The Malaysian football team has climbed to 134th in the FIFA world ranking, up from 135th. The Harimau Malaya squad accumulated 1,107.58 points, following their recent international performances, drawing 1-1 with Kyrgyzstan and beating Taiwan 3-1 in the 2026 World Cup/2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

They will compete in the 2024 Merdeka Football Tournament in September against Tajikistan, Lebanon, and the Philippines. The team faces changes as head coach Kim Pan Gon resigned, with assistant coach Pau Marti Vicente promoted to acting head coach, supported by E. Elavarasan and the existing coaching staff.
