Haris Ibrahim was a lawyer and social activist in Malaysia who passed away on August 5, 2023, after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He was 63 years old. Haris died at the home of his brother, Adam, in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. His sister-in-law, Firoza Burhan, said Haris died peacefully.

Haris had long accepted that he only had a little time left due to the incurable cancer. “He took it stoically and fought courageously and underwent all the required therapy,” she said further in the report. Haris had reportedly been given six months to live after he was diagnosed with cancer. He is survived by his 28-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter.
Haris Ibrahim was known for his activism and his contributions to Malaysian society. He will be remembered for his courage and determination in fighting for what he believed in. He is the originator of the coin phrase Asal Bukan Umno (ABU). May he rest in peace.
