In a terrifying incident on January 9, 2026, at around 6:50 pm, 10-year-old Abdul Rafka Azka Abdullah was attacked by a 6-meter-long, over 40kg reticulated python in the backyard of his brother’s home in Kampung Temai Tengah, Pekan, Pahang. The snake bit his right calf and coiled around his body up to the neck, leaving the boy crying for help and weakening after 15 minutes.
Heroic Rescue
His brother, Muhammad Nukman Muhammad Nizam, 26, tried to intervene but failed and called their uncle, Ramzi Mohamad Amin, 57. Together with Ramzi’s wife, they struggled for about 30 minutes, using a spear and two parangs to pry open the python’s jaws—resulting in Ramzi’s finger being pierced by its fangs. Once freed from the bite, the men pulled the snake off, allowing it to release its coils.
The boy was rushed to Pekan Hospital for treatment. Doctors noted possible surgery if the bite affected the bone. Ramzi described the ordeal as his first frightening encounter with such a large python, while Nukman overcame his fear to save his brother’s life. The family is relieved the child survived the close call.
