A Chinese national has been hit with six ICA bribery charges in Singapore for allegedly offering cash to immigration officers and airport staff at Changi Airport to gain entry into the country, Mothership reported.
Zhang Yanxiong, 32, was charged on Thursday (Nov 5) under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Bribe charges
Zhang allegedly offered bribes on six separate occasions at Changi Airport Terminal 1 on Sept 29 in an attempt to influence the immigration clearance process.
According to the report, the offers were made to Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers, a Certis Aviation security officer and a customer service officer. The individual amounts allegedly offered ranged from S$100 to S$150.
Bribes rejected, case referred to CPIB
All the individuals approached turned down the money, the report said. The case was then referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
If convicted of corruptly offering gratification to an agent as an inducement or reward, Zhang could be fined up to S$100,000, jailed for up to five years, or both, according to the report.
The report did not state when Zhang is due back in court.
