Illegal KLIA Taxi Operator Pleads Guilty, Cites Financial Struggles

K. Kalaivanie, 41, pleaded guilty at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court for illegally offering transport services and overcharging Chinese tourists RM836 for a ride from KLIA Terminal 2. The incident, which allegedly involved physical assault and confinement, led to her arrest during a JPJ sting operation. 

Illegal KLIA Taxi Operator Pleading Guilty

A repeat offender previously fined RM4,000 in 2023, Kalaivanie faced calls for a harsher penalty. She pleaded for leniency, citing financial hardship and caregiving responsibilities. The court imposed a RM5,000 fine, with a five-month jail term if unpaid. She managed to settle the fine. The case underscores ongoing concerns over illegal taxi operations at Malaysian airports.
