The Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) has defended former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s announcement of a Malay secretariat to “save the Malays,” countering claims it undermines diversity. In a statement, MIPP president SP Punithan argued the initiative addresses the political fragmentation of Malaysia’s major racial communities, which breeds instability and weak representation. Mahathir, speaking at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, said the non-partisan committee, open to Umno members, will champion Malay issues neglected by the government. He believes a Malay-led government is key to resolving these challenges. Punithan emphasized that unity within the Malay majority is vital for national peace and prosperity.
