Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez, a 32-year-old Guatemalan immigrant and mother of four, was fatally shot Wednesday morning in Whitestown, Indiana, after mistakenly approaching the wrong home for a cleaning job. Her husband, Mauricio Velasquez, who double-checked the address, said she was hit in the head and collapsed in his arms, bleeding profusely.

Police found her dead on the porch despite life-saving attempts. The Boone County Coroner ruled it a homicide via gunshot. No arrests have been made as investigators review evidence under Indiana’s strong “stand your ground” law, allowing deadly force against perceived unlawful entry. A GoFundMe supports the family.
