In Malaysia, one of the ways for a company to maximize its workforce is to hire interns. However, this may vary depending on the selected industry. For some industries, they are treated like full time staff. Despite this, there are some industries where they are treated as university students with significantly lesser work for them to do.
Interns standing up for their salaries
There are valid concerns when it comes to interns, as they are not protected under the Malaysian employment act as stated by this netizen. Netizens are calling out companies who practice cheap labor in this “hack” by employing multiple interns to do the job at RM200 a month. Unfortunately for them, they are also required to work on weekends. This is for them to avoid paying RM 1,500 for an actual employee.
Some are stating that there are managers who are getting high salaries that are not performing. However, others are stating that they’d rather hire professionals who have accountability if they were to be paid the same.
