IR. Dr Umi Fazara Md Ali: Separating carbon from the CO2

Associate Professor Ir. Dr Umi Fazara Md Ali, born in Kuala Lumpur took up the position at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis in 2011. She is also Associate Member at Research Centre for Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilisation, Sunway University, where she also supervises PhD and MSc students.

Her research further covers electrochemical processes such as CO2 reduction to hydrocarbon fuels and electrochemical separation and purification of wastewater from metals and will be able to reduce and separate carbon from the CO2 produced by agricultural waste.

Umi Fazara says apart from her work as an academic and a scientist, “I do actively get involved in mentoring and encouraging young students and women, in general, to take up STEM studies. I go to these designated schools within Perlis and mentor mostly underprivileged young girls to pursue STEM studies. I share my experience and how I pursue engineering.”
