Former UMNO Supreme Council member Isham Jalil has urged “original UMNO” members to turn up in full force for the Turun Anwar rally on July 26 at Dataran Merdeka, calling the issues at stake “bigger than ICERD”. In a fiery Facebook video with 435K views, he argued that while ICERD centred on identity, this rally is about Malaysians’ livelihoods. Fired from UMNO in December 2023 for rejecting cooperation with DAP, Isham told grassroots members not to fear disciplinary action. “If UMNO sacks you, so be it,” he said. “Gather in the millions like during ICERD.”
