Those held were 14 Chinese men, one Chinese woman and one Nepalese man, all aged between 26 and 50, according to Bernama.
Malay Mail quoted Fadil as describing the premises as a “mini casino open only to close acquaintances”. He said the gambling activity involved only Chinese nationals.
Chips, cash and gaming items seized
Police seized a table, seven chairs, an access card, two sets of dice, a dealer card and 52 playing cards from the penthouse, Fadil said.
Officers also confiscated 214 chips of various colours worth a total of RM5,180, as well as RM1,000 in cash.
The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) and Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, according to Bernama. Malay Mail said Section 186 relates to obstructing public servants.
Remand sought for suspects
All 16 suspects were to be brought before a magistrate on Saturday (Oct 31) for a remand application to assist in the investigation.
Fadil said enforcement would be intensified. He urged members of the public with information to call the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or go to the nearest police station.
The names of those detained were not released, and police have yet to announce the outcome of the remand application.
