KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30, 2026 – The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has ordered Datuk Seri Ong Thiam Boon, owner of two German Shepherds, to pay nearly RM250,000 in damages after his neighbour fractured his spine during a jogging incident five years ago.
Judge Zawiyah Saad ruled Ong liable for the February 10, 2021 incident involving neighbour Datuk Mohd Kamal Abdullah, awarding RM178,457.60 in special damages and RM70,000 in general damages. Ong must also pay 5% annual interest until full settlement, and RM15,000 in costs after his counterclaim was dismissed.

Court documents revealed Mohd Kamal fell while trying to protect himself from Ong’s dogs at Taman Anjung Tiara, Segambut, suffering spinal fractures that required surgery and follow-up treatment. He alleged Ong failed to control the animals or secure his gate.
Ong denied the dogs attacked, claiming Mohd Kamal lost balance while retreating on a steep road after swinging a stick at them. His defence argued the injuries were due to Mohd Kamal’s own negligence.
The court, however, sided with Mohd Kamal after considering witness testimony and documentary evidence. The ruling underscores owners’ responsibility to control restricted breeds and ensure public safety.
