COLUMBIA, South Carolina: Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein said she is “alright” following a fire that destroyed her Colleton County home on Saturday. Her husband, former Democratic state senator Arnold Goodstein, was injured after leaping from the burning house to escape. The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) confirmed it is investigating the incident, though the cause remains undetermined and there is currently no evidence of arson.

Neighbors said Arnold was rescued from a marsh using a canoe and rope. Judge Goodstein, who was walking her dogs when the blaze started, recently drew attention for a ruling that temporarily blocked South Carolina from sharing voter data with the Trump administration. The investigation remains ongoing.
