Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has urged that any redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru be carried out with care and in favour of the Malay community, citing the area’s deep historical and cultural significance.

He recalled Kampung Baru’s legacy as a symbol of Malay awakening since 1900 and its role in key national events. The Sultan emphasized that redevelopment must preserve heritage sites like the Sultan Sulaiman Club and Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque.
His remarks follow recent evictions that sparked protests and arrests. He stressed that long-term Malay interests must be central to any future plans for the area.
