A group of Kampung Sungai Baru homeowners is urging the government to expedite the long-delayed redevelopment project despite objections from certain quarters. At a press briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Kampung Sungai Baru Property Owners and Welfare Association chairman Sanita Yunus said most residents supported the project as their properties were on 99-year leases, which many could not afford to renew.

She stressed that the project, stalled for nearly nine years, was unfair to owners who had already agreed to proceed. Sanita also clarified misconceptions that the land was gifted by the Selangor Ruler, noting that their plots were purchased by parents and grandparents, not part of Malay Agricultural Settlement land. The homes were originally developed by PKNS in the early 1970s.
