The Kuala Lumpur High Court mandated lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah settle over RM5.5 million in overdue taxes to the Inland Revenue Board. This followed a prior ruling allowing LHDN’s direct judgment in the lawsuit.
LHDN’s Victory
Chief Justice Roz Mawar Rozain confirmed the final amount owed by Shafee at RM5,529,577.70. They requested RM10,000 in costs, while Shafee’s counsel sought RM5,000. The court deemed RM10,000 reasonable.
Shafee’s representative considered an appeal. The government agency previously accused Shafee of failing to pay RM9.4 million in taxes for various years. Despite his acquittal from specific charges, the withdrawal of appeals ensures Shafee’s exoneration across all cases.
