Makcik Kemboja now fined RM40,000

1 min read

AYER KEROH: Mariyah Yaakob, a 48-year-old entrepreneur known as “Makcik Kemboja,” was fined RM40,000 by the Sessions Court for posting an offensive video on social media last year accusing Malays of being lazy. Her son, Ezuan Hafsham, 23, who uploaded the video to TikTok, was granted a good behavior bond of RM10,000 without collateral for one year. Judge Azaraorni Abd Rahman imposed the fine on Mariyah, with a six-month jail sentence if unpaid, though she settled it immediately. The case sparked 23 police reports nationwide. The court emphasized the importance of avoiding statements that disrupt social harmony, especially on sensitive 3R issues (race, religion, royalty).
