Malaysia confirms start of Ramadan fasting from Thursday, Feb 19

Muslims across Malaysia will begin Ramadan 1447 H fasting on Thursday, Feb 19, after the crescent moon was observed at multiple locations nationwide, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal announced. The traditionally determined start date was broadcast live, signalling the beginning of the holy month.

The lunar observation — conducted at 29 locations throughout the country — determined that Feb 19 will mark the first full day of fasting, following a systematic and coordinated moon-sighting process. 

Religious authorities and communities have welcomed the announcement, which impacts millions of Muslims nationwide as they prepare for a month of spiritual reflection, daily fasting from dawn to sunset, and community observances.
