The Malaysian government has stepped up enforcement against foreign nationals who enter on social visit passes and work illegally, with Communications and Unity Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil saying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered stronger action to address the widespread abuse of visa flexibilities. Between January 2025 and mid-January 2026, authorities recorded 54,791 cases of foreigners breaching social visit pass conditions.

Fahmi said the Home Ministry and related enforcement agencies are intensifying operations to identify and take action against visitors found to be working illegally, with a focus on ensuring compliance with immigration laws.
The directive underscores Malaysia’s effort to protect local jobs and uphold legal entry requirements, with officials warning that both employers and workers who exploit social visit passes will face consequences under the law.
