Malaysia halts chicken exports. Singapore to find other sources

1 min read

Malaysia is hit by a chicken crisis and has halted the export of the birds – sent mostly as live chickens to neighbour Singapore – has prompted the tiny state republic to seek alternative supply sources, the authorities said.

Malaysia announced on Monday (May 23) that it will suspend the export of 3.6 million chickens per month beginning in June to address rising prices and a chicken shortage in the country.

The Singapore Food Agency announced on Monday night that importers will activate their supply chains to increase chilled chicken imports from alternative sources, frozen chicken imports from existing non-Malaysia suppliers, or draw from their poultry stocks.
