Malaysia Achieves 98.82% Internet Coverage in Populated Areas

Internet and communication coverage in populated areas across Malaysia reached 98.82% as of July 31, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

For 5G, Digital Nasional Berhad has built 7,489 transmitter sites, covering 82.4% of populated areas, with over 28 million subscriptions and 82.7% penetration per 100 people. In Tanjong Karang, coverage stands at 99.75%, while Sungai Besar records 99.99%.

The second 5G network by U Mobile began on July 14 with 1,232 upgraded sites. JENDELA 1 is set for completion by end-2025, with JENDELA 2 to be announced in Q4 2025, possibly involving new towers and satellite Internet to enhance rural access.
