Starting January 1, 2026, our country will lower its youth age limit from 40 to 30, as per the Youth Organizations and Youth Development (Amendment) Act 2019 [Act A1602]. Minister Hannah Yeoh confirmed the enforcement date following discussions with the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Malaysian Youth Council.
Malaysia’s youth age limit changing
The amendment includes restricting youth leaders’ age range to 18-30 and capping their tenure at four years. Yeoh emphasized alignment with international youth age benchmarks—Indonesia at 16-30, the Philippines at 15-30, Thailand at 15-24, Korea at 9-24, and Australia at 12-24. An allocated RM5 million yearly grant aims to fortify youth organization governance.
