Malaysia Reaffirms Strong Commitment to UN Peacekeeping Operations

Malaysia has reiterated its long-standing commitment to supporting United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions, with the Malaysian Joint Force commander, Leftenan Jeneral Datuk Zahani Zainal Abidin, saying safety and operational sustainability for peacekeepers will remain a priority. The statement came during the closing of the UN Contingent-Owned Equipment Working Group Meeting in New York.

The event, held from January 19 to 30, included discussions on equipment standards and operational effectiveness, with Malaysia’s military adviser Kolonel Shamsuri Nordin elected Vice-Chair of a sub-working group on major equipment — reflecting the country’s active involvement in international peace initiatives.

Officials highlighted Malaysia’s contributions to global peace and stability and reaffirmed the nation’s willingness to work with international partners to enhance the impact and sustainability of peacekeeping operations worldwide.
