A Malaysian national was arrested by Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority after over 1,000 packs of contraband cigarettes were found hidden in his vehicle at a checkpoint, the agency confirmed on 27 Feb 2026.

The contraband cigarettes were discovered during a routine inspection at the border, prompting further checks and the subsequent arrest of the driver, who now faces potential legal action under Singapore’s strict tobacco import laws. 

Singapore authorities continue enforcement efforts to curb the illegal trade of tobacco products and protect public health, with contraband seizures remaining a priority at checkpoints.
