During the unveiling of the 2024 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed the government’s commitment to maintaining electricity bill rebates, aiming to provide substantial support to low-income households.
Malaysian households to receive more rebates for electricity
Under this initiative, households will receive monthly electricity bill rebates of up to 40 Malaysian Ringgit, with a dedicated allocation of 55 million Ringgit. Furthermore, the government has taken steps to alleviate financial burdens by exempting deposit payments for individually named electricity accounts.
A review of 2022 data highlights that the highest electricity-consuming customers benefited from a 50 percent subsidy, while those with lower consumption levels received a more modest 10 percent subsidy.
