A Malaysian man has been jailed two weeks in Singapore for dragging a woman into a lift after she turned down his invitation to go to his home, AsiaOne reported, citing Shin Min Daily News.
Wang Qingxiang, 24, pleaded guilty in court on Thursday (Oct 29) to a charge of attempting to wrongfully confine a person.
Dragging woman into lift at Ubi block
The court heard that on the evening of Sept 21, Wang met the woman near Ubi MRT station to tell her about a job opportunity, then walked with her to the HDB block where he lived.
At about 11.25pm, he invited her to his home to continue their discussion. She declined and tried to leave, but Wang stopped her by grabbing her arm and body. She screamed for help.
When a nearby lift opened, Wang pulled her inside and held on to her while pressing the button to close the doors. The woman broke free and escaped just as the doors were about to shut.
Malaysian jailed next day
The woman lodged a police report, saying the incident had left her panicked and fearful.
Wang was arrested on Sept 22 and has been held in remand since then.
In court, the prosecution said the woman had escaped only by chance, and that she would otherwise have been trapped alone with Wang in the small, enclosed lift.
