A 43-year-old man who allegedly fled from traffic police and crashed into two vehicles during a Marina Bay police chase in Singapore was due to be charged in court on Tuesday (Oct 27) with six offences, Malay Mail reported, citing AsiaOne.

The charges include dangerous driving causing hurt, driving without a valid driving licence and failing to stop when ordered to do so by a police officer. The man has not been named.

Marina Bay police chase began at Raffles Boulevard

Police said on Monday night (Oct 26) that the incident began at about 3.05am on Sunday (Oct 25) along Raffles Boulevard, where the man was asked to stop for checks.

He allegedly inched his car forward instead, forcing officers to step aside, before speeding away and prompting a vehicle pursuit.

During the chase, he allegedly ran multiple red lights along Marina Boulevard, Sheares Avenue and Marina Link.

Car hit police vehicle at Bayfront Avenue

At a traffic light junction along Bayfront Avenue, the man stopped behind another vehicle. When a police patrol vehicle pulled up beside him, he allegedly tried to force his way through the gap between the stationary car and the patrol vehicle.

His car struck the driver’s door of the police vehicle and the rear right bumper of the other car. He then allegedly fled the scene.

The driver of the stationary car suffered back pain and was given three days of medical leave, police said.

Unlicensed Driver Six charges

Investigations found that the man did not hold a valid driving licence. The car he was driving has been seized by police.

Besides the three offences above, he faces charges of using a vehicle without insurance coverage, failing to stop after an accident and failing to render assistance after an accident.

Police said those who commit traffic offences without valid licences will be dealt with firmly, adding that “public cooperation is essential in keeping Singapore’s roads safe for all users”.
