Starting October 1, any individual whose water runoff from house slabs spills onto roads or sidewalks will face a fixed penalty notice ranging between Rs 2,000 and Rs 10,000. The announcement was made by Minister of National Infrastructure, Ajay Gunness, during a press conference on Thursday, August 25.
“We will introduce a fixed penalty for those who divert their slab water onto roads and sidewalks. From October 1, wherever we see water flowing from slabs onto the streets, a fixed penalty notice will be issued,” Gunness stated.
In parallel, the government has released the Land Drainage Master Plan on August 25. This strategic two-volume report identifies flood-prone areas, specifying where construction is permitted and where it is prohibited. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen flood resilience, protect the environment, and reduce risks linked to heavy rainfall and flooding.
