MCA Youth Central Committee member Lee Kok Seng urged the Education Ministry (MOE) to review the policy requiring students to wear Jalur Gemilang badges, citing low quality and safety risks.

After just a week of use, issues like sharp pins, weak fastenings, and fragile materials have raised injury concerns among active schoolchildren. Lee demanded a full safety inspection, transparency in procurement, and an independent audit. 

Critics, including the National Parents and Teachers Association (PIBGN), proposed printing flags on uniforms instead. About 9.1 million badges were procured at an estimated RM6.94 million. The Education Minister defended the free distribution of badges.
