China’s censorship laws have resulted in lingerie sellers turning to male modeling on their livestreams after females were banned from doing so. According to reports, female models wearing lingerie have been quickly shut down and banned due to a law created to prevent the spread of obscene material online.
The ban also affected entertainers who were seen as “effeminate” or had “incorrect political positions”. Livestreams contribute to around 10% of China’s e-commerce revenue, which is estimated to be worth over S$956 billion by 2023.
