A 37-year-old Malaysian woman was sentenced to 17 months in jail in Singapore for stealing nearly SGD57,000 (RM188,463) from a minimart in Jurong West, where she worked as a cashier.

Over six months, she regularly pocketed up to SGD700 per shift to fund her online gambling addiction. Her theft was uncovered after the store manager noticed sales dropped only during her shifts and reviewed CCTV footage. 

She admitted to voiding transactions and depositing stolen money via ATM. After failing to repay the stolen amount, she was fired and reported to police. She also faced charges for illegal gambling.
