Muhyiddin In The Same Spot With Mahathir In 2020

1 min read

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday promised political reforms and urged opposition lawmakers to back him in Parliament. This is apparently a last-ditch effort to survive as PM after he admitted he does not have a majority in Parliament.

The upcoming confidence vote is crucial for his survival and his call for MPs from all parties (including the opposition) to support him is a reminder of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s call for non-partisan support to remain PM after he resigned in Feb 2020.

Muhyiddin however is dangling the stick of possible snap elections during the COVID-19 resurgence though he gave assurance elections will be held in July 2021. However, if he is no more PM, his promise of elections next year will be invalid.
