Muslims in Malaysia will begin fasting on Sunday, March 2, Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said. Fasting generally entails abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations from before the first light of dawn until the setting of the sun. Muslims are required to fast on each of the 29 to 30 days of Ramadan. If unable to fast, charity or fasting days outside Ramadan may suffice.

Muslims fasting
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, the heart of the Muslim world, has started fasting today, Saturday, after the moon was sighted. Ramadan commences when a small sliver of the moon, known in astronomical terms as the “waxing crescent,” emerges and becomes visible. And that’s true across the Islamic world. Indonesia starts fasting today, Saturday, while Singapore starts on Sunday.
