Former Prime Minister Najib Razak could apply for parole in September or October if his judicial review to confirm an addendum order for house arrest fails, said his lawyer Shafee Abdullah. Speaking at a townhall, Shafee noted Najib’s six-year sentence, reduced from 12, includes an automatic two-year remission. Having served three years, Najib could be eligible for parole within a year. Shafee highlighted Najib’s exemplary prison conduct and ongoing PhD studies on national development. The judicial review hearing is set for July 1-2, following Najib’s 2022 conviction for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC Internation.
