PUTRAJAYA, Jan 16: Testifying in his own defence, Najib Razak admitted using Low Taek Jho’s phone to speak with 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh in 2009, citing convenience. Najib said Low was present at the 1MDB board meeting but denied inviting him.

When asked why he didn’t contact Bakke directly, Najib said he found nothing wrong with using Low’s phone. He admitted working with Low for his Middle Eastern connections, unaware of Low’s alleged misconduct. The call reportedly urged the board to expedite approval of a controversial US$1 billion deal.
