Malaysian singer and YouTuber Zhu Haoren is under police investigation after a video of him filming himself during the recitation of the national anthem, Negaraku, went viral.

The PKR Selayang Youth Division lodged a police report, prompting Gombak police to investigate under Section 8(2) of the National Anthem Act 1968 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

If convicted, Haoren could face up to one year in prison, a RM50,000 fine, or both. In a social media post, Haoren apologised, saying he only wanted to share the joyous moment, denied any intent to disrespect the anthem, and pledged future caution.
