Netizen Questions Subscription Provider’s “Sneaky” RM3 Channel Adjustment That Could Extend Contract

1 min read

A Malaysian social media user recently shared an experience involving a phone call from subscription television provider, claiming the company attempted to introduce a small monthly price adjustment while simultaneously extending his contract. The user said the caller informed him that his Basic Plan would undergo a “channel realignment,” removing cartoon channels but adding news and documentary channels for an additional RM3 per month. When the caller asked if he agreed to the adjustment, the user realized that accepting the change would also mean committing to another two-year contract.

According to the post, the user initially confirmed the new monthly price of RM70, up from RM67, before asking whether the change required signing a new contract. The caller reportedly confirmed that agreeing to the adjustment would extend the subscription agreement for another two years. The user declined immediately, saying he did not want to be locked into a new contract despite the small increase.

The user later logged into his account on the provider’s self-management portal and requested to terminate the service instead. He also expressed frustration with the requirement to provide 30 days’ notice to cancel the subscription, comparing it to resigning from a job. The post sparked discussion online, with some users recommending alternative streaming services such as Sooka that do not require long-term contracts.
