1 min read

The hot topic on social media now is regarding the Low Valued Goods tax which is set to come in the middle of next year. Fahmi Fazil, the Minister of Communications stated that this tax is for foreign goods below RM500. There are some who vehemently disagree with the idea, but there are those supporting it.

Many state the main point of this initiative is for Malaysians to support our local businesses rather than foreign ones. Furthermore, an X user states that it is rather ironic that Malaysians would cheer the government for making other initiatives to protect local business, but when it comes to this, many are angry.

Others are confused regarding how this initiative will work. Some state that will the local business owners be affected with this tax if they purchase goods from overseas? Or will it affect both business owners and consumers?
