It seems with the rise of social media normalising tips from America, some workers in the service industry and delivery industry feel entitled towards it. A viral X post shows a rider demanding tips from their customer, saying that they shouldn’t forget to tip them.

Some argue that the rising cost of living necessitates extra income for workers. According to X users, tipping culture in the United States became popular nearly a century ago when restaurant owners significantly reduced wages, forcing workers to rely on tips for survival.

Others suggested that we follow the Japanese culture where tipping is not exactly encouraged as it may erode morale.
