Malaysia reported 3,185 new HIV cases in 2024, with a notification rate of 9.4 per 100,000 people. The Health Ministry revealed that 90% of these cases involved men, while 75% were among individuals aged 20 to 39.

Sexual transmission has now become the dominant mode of infection, accounting for 96% of cases, replacing needle sharing among drug users. Of those, 64% resulted from homosexual or bisexual contact, and 32% from heterosexual transmission.
Compared to a 50% drop in infections between 2000–2009, the decline has slowed to just 27% since 2010. The ministry continues targeted interventions to curb the spread.
