This year, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has imposed international travel bans on 182,666 Malaysians due to income tax and property profit tax arrears. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying disclosed that 171,571 individuals faced restrictions for income tax debts, while 11,095 were affected by property profit tax arrears.

Initially, LHDN communicates reminders and notifications to taxpayers with outstanding dues. Failure to comply results in travel restrictions. Notably, the current figure marks a rise from April last year, with an additional 2,450 individuals added to the list. Despite this, it represents a decrease compared to 2022’s 197,190 barred individuals and RM12.41 billion in arrears.
