Sub-zero temperatures, icy roads, and the high altitude of the quake’s epicenter, nearly 3,000m above sea level, posed challenges for rescue operations. Around 155,393 homes in Gansu were damaged or destroyed. The fatalities include 113 in Gansu and 14 in Qinghai, with 13 people still missing.
