There has been no official proposal agreed upon by BRICS member countries regarding de-dollarisation in trade, said Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Malaysia, as a BRICS partner, is aware of the situation, especially the threat by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to impose a 100% tariff on BRICS countries if they adopt a new currency. Malaysia views BRICS as an important platform for non-binding discussions on regional economic issues.

The high interdependence in trade between Malaysia and the U.S. makes any tariff increase harmful to both parties.
