A Malaysian Facebook user, Brown Lo, voiced frustration over a pork noodle stall’s 2026 price hike of RM0.50 due to rising ingredient costs, tagging Selangor state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat (PKR) and urging the Madani government to intervene. Lo lamented that a topping-scarce bowl now costs RM10 despite a stronger ringgit.

Chua responded by explaining Malaysia’s free-market economy, where prices reflect both costs and demand. He cited consumers willingly paying RM15 for coffee as proof that high prices are market-driven. Rather than government action, he suggested exercising freedom of choice by patronising cheaper alternatives. The exchange highlights ongoing public discontent with living costs under the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition.
