Over 100,000 Flee Thai-Cambodian Border Fighting as Death Toll Rises

More than 100,000 people have fled intense border fighting between Thailand and Cambodia—the bloodiest in over a decade—as artillery, tanks, jets, and ground troops clashed. At least 14 people, mostly civilians, have been killed, prompting mass evacuations to nearly 300 shelters in Thailand.

The conflict reignited after a Cambodian soldier was killed in May, escalating Thursday into battles near ancient temples, with both sides blaming each other for the violence. Diplomatic ties have rapidly deteriorated, with ambassadors expelled. The UN Security Council is set to meet, while the US, EU, France, and China have urged an immediate end to the violence.
