PETALING JAYA: PAS leaders have urged members to stop using the term “kafir” when referring to non-Muslims, citing the need for more inclusive language. Central committee member Dr Halimah Ali said PAS must respect sensitivities if it seeks support from all Malaysians, while Pendang MP Awang Hashim noted that although the term has various Arabic meanings, it could be offensive and should be replaced with “non-Muslim” in daily discourse.

Their remarks followed a reminder from the PAS Supporters’ Congress (DHPP) at the party’s 71st annual muktamar in Kedah, which stressed that words like “kafir” and “pendatang” undermine unity. DHPP leaders called for politics that “brings peace, not division,” positioning PAS as more inclusive in its outreach.
