At its annual congress, Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) amended its party constitution to allow non-Muslims to join as associate members, provided they practice a religion and are not atheists. The motion received unanimous approval from over 1,300 delegates. PAS Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan clarified that while non-Muslims can become associate members, regular membership still requires being a Malaysian Muslim. The change aims to strengthen PAS’s Non-Muslim Supporters Wing (DHPP), which will now have voting rights and hold positions within the party. This move is part of PAS’s strategy to appeal to non-Malay, non-Muslim voters ahead of the 2027 general election.
